Hanging out in Eveleth, Minnesota
The City of Eveleth, Minnesota, completed the renovation of their Civic Auditorium during the spring of 2017. Located at 413 Pierce Street, this theater needed a new front curtain to complete the historic aesthetic of their auditorium. The original painted asbestos curtain was produced by the Twin City Scenic Company of Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1913. Over the years it was repainted multiple times by amateur artists and began to exhibit signs of severe deterioration. City officials decided to commission a new curtain with a 1913 aesthetic. The new backdrop was designed and painted by Wendy Waszut-Barrett. The composition was inspired by the extant designs of John Z. Wood, an employee of the Twin City Scenic Co.
